I got the pleasure of being handed a few sneak peek fat quarters of the upcoming Cotton and Steel by my friend Nicole – the incredible owner of my favorite local sewing hangout Finch Sewing Studio. My little creations are proudly displayed in the shop right now! I wrote up a little blog post for the Finch blog with my photos, but I thought I’d share the shots here too. They’re too damn cute not to ^_^
First, I took inspiration from this animal print and made a mini zip purse.
I really didn’t feel like sewing a purse strap, so I fished out a couple of long rust colored zippers from my stash and made a strap with them. Boom.
Clover’s legs! I love her long legs. Those jeans are a pair of small fry skinny jeans that I’ve yet to blog. Oops. I’m kind of a horrible blogger of my projects lately. I think there are a total of 5 pairs of pants, a knitted hat, and a tee shirt that haven’t been shared on here yet. Two of those things are made for me too!
Next up is this cozy winter hood (a pattern from the Oliver and S little things to sew book. (I’ve made tons of these. My husband says I need to start selling them off.). I thought the woodsy print would look nice with a pop of FUR. I love the solid/not solid teal with the dot squares. So great.
Violet. Violet…..The most explosively enthusiastic yet snuggly little person ever.
My modeling directions: Violet, just do something awesome.
Oh, ok mama. How about a little of this?
A lot of her poses really remind me of Boy era Bono dance moves. I’m not sure what level of coolness quotient this entails. He’s a rock star. He’s the best. His dance moves are super dorky for a young man. Not at all dorky on a 4 year old girl.
Oh and HEY, if you live anywhere close to the Northern Virginia area, go check out Finch. There’s rows of really amazing and tempting fabrics and buckets of yarn that you just want to squish and run off with. Plus classes. And it’s in a really cute part of a historic little town. It doesn’t get much better than that! I think I’m going to start considering my sewing years in BF and AF (before finch and after finch).
Have a happy thanksgiving!
